X-Ray Radiology FAQ

Does urgent care do X-rays?

Yes. Vitality Urgent Care has digital X-ray at both our Buffalo Grove and Lake Zurich clinics, every day we are open. You can be examined, X-rayed, and treated in one visit.

Do I need a referral or a doctor’s order for an X-ray?

No. Walk in or book online. Our provider examines you first and orders the X-ray if it will change your care. You do not need a referral from another doctor.

How long does an X-ray take at urgent care?

The X-ray itself takes a few minutes. Most patients are examined, X-rayed, and given a plan in a single visit.

When will I get my X-ray results?

Your provider reviews the images with you before you leave. A board-certified radiologist also reads every X-ray, usually within 2 to 4 hours, and we contact you if the final report changes your treatment.

Is an X-ray technologist always on site?

Yes. Both Vitality clinics have an X-ray technologist every hour we are open, so you never need to call ahead to check.

Can urgent care X-ray a broken bone?

Yes. We X-ray suspected fractures of the hand, wrist, arm, foot, ankle, leg, and collarbone. If it is broken, we splint it and refer you to an orthopedic specialist when needed. Bones pushing through the skin or badly bent limbs need the ER.

Can my child get an X-ray at Vitality?

Yes. We X-ray children of all ages for injuries, possible fractures, chest illness, and swallowed objects. A parent can usually stay close by.

Can I get a chest X-ray at urgent care?

Yes. We use chest X-rays to check for pneumonia and other lung problems when you have a lingering cough, fever, or trouble breathing.

How much does an X-ray cost at urgent care?

At Vitality, an X-ray is a flat add-on to your urgent care visit, with no facility fees. The self-pay price is listed in the Cost and Insurance section above and on our price menu. With insurance, it is billed with your visit under your plan.

Is a digital X-ray safe?

Yes. Digital X-ray uses a low dose of radiation, focused only on the area being checked. Tell us if you are or might be pregnant.
