What does a work physical include?
A work physical evaluates whether you can safely perform the requirements of a specific job or program. We commonly see healthcare workers and students, construction and warehouse employees, school staff, childcare workers, municipal employees, manufacturing workers, and other new hires.
The exam may include:
- Vital signs
- Vision screening
- Hearing screening when required
- Review of medical history and medications
- Job specific physical examination
- Completion of required paperwork
Can I complete other employment testing during the same visit?
Yes. When required, we can also provide:
- Occupational drug testing
- PPD skin testing
- QuantiFERON blood testing
- MMR, varicella, and hepatitis B titers
- Digital chest x ray

Work Physical FAQ
Do I need an appointment for a work physical?
No. Walk ins are welcome at both Vitality Urgent Care locations seven days a week. You can also reserve a time online if you prefer a specific time.
What if my employer did not give me a form?
We can provide a work physical form. If your employer has specific requirements, bring any instructions, job description, or paperwork they provided.
How long does a work physical take?
Most visits are completed within one hour, including the physical exam and paperwork.
What should I bring?
Bring a photo ID, employer or school paperwork, glasses or contacts if you wear them, a current medication list, and any available immunization records.
Is a drug screen included?
No. Drug screening is added only when required by your employer or program. A 5 panel or 10 panel urine drug screen is $55.
Can I get TB testing at the same visit?
Yes. We offer PPD skin testing and QuantiFERON blood testing. Chest X ray is also available on site when required for clearance.
Can I get immunity titers at the same visit?
Yes. We offer measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR), varicella, and hepatitis B titers. Most results are available within two to three days.
What happens if my titer shows I am not immune?
Your employer, school, or program may require vaccination and repeat testing. Requirements vary by program, so follow the instructions provided with your clearance paperwork.
Does insurance cover a work physical?
Usually not. Employer required physicals are generally paid directly by the employer or employee rather than billed to health insurance.
Can my employer be billed directly?
Yes. Direct billing is available for employers with an account established in advance.
When do I receive my paperwork?
Physical exam paperwork is usually completed during the same visit. Laboratory results are reported separately when they become available.
Is a work physical the same as a DOT physical?
No. A DOT or CDL physical is a federally regulated commercial driver exam with separate requirements. If your paperwork mentions DOT or CDL, schedule a DOT physical.
Can students use this service for clinical clearance?
Yes. We frequently see nursing, CNA, phlebotomy, and other healthcare students who need physical exams, immunity titers, TB testing, or other clinical placement requirements.
Can you complete everything in one visit?
In many cases, yes. The physical, drug screen, TB testing, blood draw for titers, and required paperwork can often be completed during the same visit.
What happens if the physical finds a medical issue?
The provider reviews the findings with you and completes the required form based on the examination. If additional evaluation or treatment is recommended, we explain the next step.
Do you provide fit for duty or return to work evaluations?
Yes. These evaluations are available when requested by an employer. Bring the employer’s documentation describing the specific clearance requirements.
I cannot say enough good things about the company. I was pretty sick and decided to go to an urgent care. Vitality urgent care came in my search and I decided to bring the service home instead of going to an urgent care for the same price. I hate going somewhere in traffics, looking for parking and sitting in crowded rooms being exposed to other germs. The gentlemen that answer the phone asked me few questions about my symptoms. He gave me a two-hour window during which they arrived. The provider was friendly, super personal and interacted well with my entire family during the visit. They conducted both Strep and Flu test in my living room. Frankly, could not ask for better service.
