Pediatric Urgent Care Guide: What Every Parent Should Know
Children don’t get sick on a schedule. Whether it’s a late-night fever or a weekend tumble, you need quick, reliable care that prioritizes your child’s comfort and well-being. This pediatric urgent care guide explains when urgent care is the right choice, how to prepare for your visit, and what to expect when your child is seen by our team.
When Pediatric Urgent Care Is the Right Fit
Urgent care provides same-day evaluation and treatment for illnesses and injuries that aren’t life-threatening but still need timely attention.
What We Commonly Treat
Each visit begins with a careful assessment, and our providers clearly explain the diagnosis and treatment plan so you leave with peace of mind. Strep throat – Sudden sore throat, fever, and difficulty swallowing. Diagnosed with a rapid PCR test to start treatment quickly. Flu and RSV – Fever, cough, congestion, and fatigue. Our respiratory panel helps detect viral infections and guides next steps. COVID-19 symptoms – Similar to flu and cold, often requiring confirmation for return-to-school clearance or treatment. Ear infections – Pain, pulling at ears, trouble sleeping, and fluid buildup. Evaluated using a pediatric otoscope. Pink eye (conjunctivitis) – Red, itchy, or goopy eyes that may spread quickly through families or classrooms. Skin rashes – Hives, eczema flares, viral exanthems, or allergic reactions. We assess cause and offer treatment for comfort and healing. Stomach bugs and food-related symptoms – Vomiting, diarrhea, and nausea. We evaluate hydration levels and provide anti-nausea support if needed. Mild dehydration – Caused by illness or heat. We check hydration status and may provide gradual rehydration Asthma flare-ups – Wheezing, coughing, and shortness of breath. Nebulizer therapy available if needed. Minor injuries and sprains – From falls, sports, or play. We assess swelling or bruising and perform X-rays to rule out fractures. Bug bites and allergic reactions – Swelling, hives, or discomfort from insect stings or unknown exposures.
Seek emergency care for breathing difficulty, seizures, head trauma, or fever in babies under 3 months. Not sure? Call or walk in—we’ll help you make the safest choice.
